Welcome to the Friends of the Crown website.
In early 2023 The Crown Inn closed and we aim to re-open it as a Community Pub.
Our mission is to secure The Crown Inn as a thriving community owned business servicing Grewelthorpe and surrounding areas as a pub and broader community asset for the long term.
We want to ensure social inclusion for all our residents by providing a safe, warm and welcoming evironment for all local residents and visitors.

We’ve got two big bits of news to share with you!
On Monday of this week, Friends of The Crown submitted an offer for The Crown Inn, which we are delighted to tell you was accepted by Admiral Taverns. This is a huge step forward for us and to say we are pleased is putting it mildly! The offer is subject to funding and we still have a great deal to do to secure the property, but at least we now know what we have to aim for.
Also this week we submitted our application to the Community Ownership Fund (COF). As we said last time, the fund opened with a much shorter window than anybody anticipated so it was a huge amount of work to get our bid ready, but we managed it – with an hour to go! We should hear in a couple of months or so, and of course, we will let you know how we get on.
Thank you to everybody who responded to our previous e-mail by sending photos or submitting share pledges. We will be undertaking the Share Issue – that’s when we will ask you to actually pay the money – once we know the outcome of our COF application, but in the meantime you can still pledge to buy shares via the Share Pledge form on our website, or ask us to send you (or anybody else!) a form by post or e-mail.
